- ThanQ Mission: To improve patients’ quality of life by early detection of head and neck cancers, optimal treatment selection of thyroid cancers and head and neck cancers, and surgeries of the best quality
- VISION 2028: Performing 10% of diagnoses and 5% of surgeries among nation-wide cases of thyroid and head and neck cancers in Korea by 2028
- Surgery on admission: 1,779 cases
Thyroid: 595 cases including 509 cases of thyroid cancer (about 2% of nation-wide cases)
Head and neck cancers: 109 cases (about 2% of nation-wide cases)
Benign salivary gland tumors: 492 cases including 447 cases of parotid tumor (about 12% of nation-wide cases)
Ranula and sialolithiasis: 136 cases
Other benign tumors in H&N: 115 cases
Tonsillectomy: 291 cases
Laryngeal microsurgery (benign): 33 cases
- Surgery at out-patient clinic: 1,895 cases
- Thyroid-head and neck ultrasonography: 14,483 cases
- Fine needle aspiration cytology and core needle biopsy: 2,485 cases
- Pathology: 1,794 cases
- Voice lab: 611 cases
During first 3 years,
- 20,000 new patients
- 13,000 cases of thyroid-head and neck ultrasonography (recently 450 cases per month)
- High quality of diagnostic evaluation (FNA, fine needle aspiration): Only 0.47% of Inadequate specimen (Bethesda category I in FNA of thyroid nodules; among 1,700 cases of FNA)
(compared with 10%~15% of reports from university hospitals)
- 2,000 cases of surgery with in-patients: 900 cases of thyroid/thyroid cancer, 370 cases of head and neck tumors and cancers
- 1,100 cases of surgery with out-patients, 4,100 cases of voice analysis and voice therapy
- Distribution of patients’ residence (analysis of in-patients): 5% from overseas, 40% from Seoul, 30% form Gyeonggi Province, 25% from other areas in Korea
- Almost all the diagnostic tests can be done in the same day of the first visit (including ultrasonography, fine needle aspiration cytology, core needle biopsy, open biopsy, CT scans)
- Specialists (not residents) perform the surgery from skin to skin.
- No drain tube insertion after meticulous surgery (thyroid lobectomy, total thyroidectomy, and parotidectomy) can make short hospital stay. (Same day surgery or 1 night stay is usually enough for them.)
- For even bigger surgery, including cervical lymph node dissection, like modified radical neck dissection, 2 to 3 nights stay is enough because of short surgery and anesthesia time.
- The number of cases of thyroid/thyroid cancer surgery at ThanQ during the year 2019 is quite superior to that of an ENT department (3 professors) of a big university hospital (470 cases vs. 180 cases).
